Question 1

Is Doconut.app really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Doconut.app is completely free to use for individuals. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or credit cards required to view your documents.

Question 2

Do I have to sign up?

Accepted Answer

No. There is no account and no email box to fill in — drop the file on the page and it opens.

Question 3

Does it work on my phone?

Accepted Answer

Yes, our viewer is fully responsive and works on all modern mobile devices, tablets, and desktop computers (Windows, Mac, Linux).

Question 4

Do I need to install anything?

Accepted Answer

No. The viewer is HTML5 and runs in the browser tab you already have open, so Acrobat, Office and AutoCAD can stay uninstalled.

Question 5

Is it safe to upload something private?

Accepted Answer

The upload runs over HTTPS, your file is rendered in a temporary session tied to your browser, and nothing is kept on our servers afterwards.

Question 6

How long do you keep my file?

Accepted Answer

Until you close the tab. When the viewing session ends the file is deleted from our servers, so there is nothing to come back to later.

Question 7

Can anyone else open what I uploaded?

Accepted Answer

No. Your document is tied to a session ID that only your browser holds, and it is never listed anywhere public.

Question 8

Which formats can I open here?

Accepted Answer

70+ extensions, and the awkward ones are the reason this page exists: PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, but also DWG and DXF drawings, layered PSD files, MSG and EML email, VSD diagrams, MPP schedules, EPUB books and DNG camera raws. If you are not sure yours is on the list, drop it on the home page — the uploader answers before it sends anything.

Question 9

Can I open a DWG without AutoCAD?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The CAD engine renders DWG, DXF and DGN geometry directly, so you can read a drawing on a machine that has never had AutoCAD installed.

Question 10

What happens with password-protected files?

Accepted Answer

You are asked for the password before the first page renders. It decrypts the document for that viewing session, and nothing opens without it.

Question 11

Why does my document look different from the desktop copy?

Accepted Answer

A browser does not have the fonts your desktop application has, so an unusual typeface is substituted and the layout shifts a little. The text and the structure stay intact.

Question 12

How large a file can I upload?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the format. A PDF or a PSD is allowed to be far bigger than an XML file before this site turns it away, so the ceiling belongs to each viewer page rather than to the site. Go over it and the message names the exact limit for the format you tried.

Question 13

Why did my upload fail?

Accepted Answer

Four things cause it: the file is empty, the file is corrupt, it is over the size limit for that format, or the extension is not one we render. Check which, then try again.

Question 14

Can I print what I am viewing?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Ctrl+P, or Cmd+P on a Mac. It prints the pages exactly as they render on screen.

Question 15

My file will not load. Who do I contact?

Accepted Answer

This is a free tool, so there is no support queue for individual files. If you are building on the Doconut SDK, the Doconut team handles that separately.

Question 16

Can I put this viewer on my own site?

Accepted Answer

Not this page, which is for personal use. The same rendering engine is licensed as the **Doconut SDK**, and that is what you embed in your own application.

Question 17

Is there an API?

Accepted Answer

Not on this site. Doconut.com licenses the rendering engine as a .NET package for ASP.NET Core and MVC, with annotation, conversion, DICOM and full-text search as separate plugins. It ships with your own application, so it runs wherever that runs.

Question 18

What is this viewer built on?

Accepted Answer

Next.js in the browser, and the **Doconut .NET Viewer** library doing the rendering on the server.

Question 19

How do I buy the Doconut SDK?

Accepted Answer

Pricing, the free trial and the sales team all live on Doconut.com. The contact button at the end of this page reaches the same people.
